2021年の初夏、作者は金沢での芸術祭における新作制作のため、能登半島を旅した。その旅の途中、金沢の老舗の薬屋であり、長い歴史を持つ石黒薬局(福久屋石黒傳六商店)と出会う。この出会いを契機に、身体の治癒と深く関わる植物の世界へと、制作を通じて足を踏み入れることとなった。

今回発表する《Microcosmos》は、2021年に金沢で発表した三面マルチスクリーン映像作品《生まれた土地の光 / 招き入れる遠い大地 / 土に還る予感》の延長上に位置する新作である。本作では、ミシマサイコ、オオカラスウリ、ギンセンカといった植物の中にひそむ微小な世界が、まるで星団や銀河のうねり、星雲のふくらみにも重なるような姿として現れている。

 

これらの植物は、人間の身体に取り入れられることで、眩暈の緩和や解熱、鎮痛などの作用をもたらし、漢方や民間伝承薬として伝えられてきた。

植物たちは、長い時間の中で、数多の土地や身体、そして季節の巡りを旅してきた。春が訪れるたび、新しい芽が顔を出し、自然の営みの中で、癒しの循環が繰り返されていく。

In the early summer of 2021, the artist traveled to the Noto Peninsula to create a new work for an art festival in Kanazawa.On this journey, I encountered Fukuhisaya Ishiguro Denroku Shoten (Ishiguro Pharmacy), a venerable and historical drugstore in Kanazawa.This discovery inspired me to venture into the world of plants with deep connections to physical healing through my art.I created the new work presented here, "Microcosmos," as an extension of the three-sided, multi-screen video installation, "The light of the land where it was born / To Invite a distant land / The presentiment of returning to the soil," exhibited in Kanazawa in 2021.In this work, the microscopic world hidden in plants such as Mishima-saiko (Bupleurum stenophyllum), okarasu-uri (Trichosanthes laceribractea), and flower-of-an-hour (Hibiscus trionum) are depicted like layers of undulating star clusters and galaxies, and swelling nebulae.Knowledge of these plants, which alleviate dizziness, reduce fever, and relieve pain when taken into the human body, has been passed down through Chinese medicines and folk remedies.Over long periods of time, these plants have journeyed through many lands, human bodies, and seasonal cycles.Every springtime, when new buds appear, the cycle of healing repeats itself within the workings of nature.
