スクリプカリウ落合安奈は、日本とルーマニア、ふたつの母国に根を下ろす方法を模索してきた作家である。しかし、COVID-19が世界中で猛威を振るい、渡航規制のためもうひとつの母国に行くことができない状況が続いている。そこで彼女は、自身が生まれるきっかけとなった写真家である母・落合由利子の旅を紐解き、共同で展覧会をつくることを試みた。

日本大学芸術学部で写真を学び、写真家として活動する由利子は、1989年にドイツに渡り、ベルリンの壁崩壊を目の当たりにした。その後、ルーマニア革命の喧騒に満ちたブカレストへと移り、一旦帰国した由利子であったが、再び写真を撮るためにルーマニアに渡り、東欧の大地で暮らす人々とともに生きることを選択する。そこで安奈を授かったことは、由利子の旅を象徴するできごとであり、安奈にとっては人生という旅のはじまりであった。

本展は、３つの要素によって構成される。

１つめは、由利子がベルリンとルーマニア各地で撮影した写真。

２つめは、安奈が自身のルーツを探りに訪れたルーマニアで撮影した写真と、彼の地から持ち帰ったものを日本の家に差し込む光で撮影した写真、

呼応する２枚を１作品に組み合わせた作品群。

そして、由利子と安奈が展示模型を挟んで対話する様子を収めた映像。

それらを通じて、由利子が巡ってきた旅路、そして、自身のルーツをたぐり寄せる安奈の旅路、ふたつの旅路が照らし出される。

Ana Scripcariu-Ochiai is a mixed-media artist. Unable to visit her other home country due to global travel restrictions during the pandemic, she embarked on a project to unravel the journey of her mother, Yuriko Ochiai—a photographer whose life and choices deeply inspired Ana's own artistic path. Together, they conceived this exhibition as a dialogue across generations and geographies.

 

Yuriko, who studied photography at Nihon University College of Art and worked as a professional photographer, travelled to Germany in 1989 and witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall. She then moved to Bucharest amidst the chaos of the Romanian Revolution, eventually choosing to settle in Eastern Europe to live among its people. Ana’s birth there was a symbolic turning point in Yuriko's journey, marking the beginning of Ana's own life-long exploration of her identity.

 

The exhibition consists of three core elements:

Firstly, archival photographs taken by Yuriko in Berlin and throughout Romania.

Secondly, a series of works by Ana combining two distinct photographic elements: images captured in Romania during her search for her roots, and photographs of objects brought back from those travels, documented under the light of her Japanese home.

Thirdly, a video created by Ana, capturing the hands of Yuriko and Ana in silent dialogue across an exhibition model.

 

Through these interconnected elements, two parallel journeys are illuminated: Yuriko's historical path and Ana's ongoing journey back to her own roots.
