Journey
2021/6/3 - 6/19
-「Journey」
Akio Nagasawa Gallery Aoyama is pleased to announce the opening of “Journey” an exhibition of works by Ana Scripcariu-Ochiai.
This time the artist will present her latest works from two series mirrors and Outline to flicker.
Mirrors is a series of paintings realized in 2019 as an extension of her fieldworks, regarding local customs and festivals in various parts of Japan and abroad, which goes under the same theme: 'the connection between the land and the people’. In the series the artist tries to bring to light the human activities she was looking for during her researches but that she ended up finding among monkeys, by painting the reflection of the concept 'I see human beings inside monkeys and monkeys inside human beings'.
Beside the artist's paintings, some of her drawings will be presented for the very first time.
Outline to Flicker is a series where the 'breath' visualized by the plastic bags sewn into old Japanese and Rumanian photographs represents the connection between the artists self and the others through other elements that go beyond time and space. It is a series the artist has been working on continuously since 2015.
– Artist's statement
On the occasion of this exhibition, I will present the works from the new series "Outline to flicker" and "Mirrors" will be presented. In "Outline to flicker" the 'breath' visualized by the plastic bags sewn into old Japanese and Rumanian photographs represents the connection between myself and the others through other elements that go beyond time and space. It is a series I have been working on continuously since 2015."Mirrors" is a series of paintings realized in 2019 as an extension of my fieldworks regarding local costums and festivals in various parts of Japan and abroad which goes under the same theme: 'the connection between the land and the people'. In this series I painted what I was trying to find in human activities but I found out among various monkeys: the reflection of the concept 'I see human beings inside monkeys and monkeys inside human beings'.
